I have a tumblr!

Im probably going to be just as bad using tumblr as I am blogspot but will give it a go..x


Problems at work

Was managing this guy (A) n he didn't like it. He wasn't complying with company policy regarding uniform, so on the instruction of my DM, who caught him, i was told to sit down and chat with him formally and take a record, telling him that he had to comply with company policy and if caught again, disciplinary procedure would be followed and disciplinary action may happen as a result. I caught him again a week later but told him to sort himself out n that this is his only freebie pass, as if he is caught again, i would have no option but to start disciplinary procedures. One week after that, DM caught him again and informed me to sit down with this guy again and to inform DM of when the investigation meeting was. Not the most thrilling part of my job but hey ho, part of it.

This was going on from oct, but due to staff member not 'receiving' letter and not showing up, it was delayed, then delayed again coz we had massive snow storm.eventually investigation happened and it proceeded to disciplinary action and he received a verbal warning for it as his attitude basically was that he didn't agree with the uniform policy and didn't want to follow it.

Don't really understand this but if you don't agree with company policy and don't want to follow it, then don't work for the company but hey ho, that's just my opinion. Any ways, this staff member blamed me for this happening and said i was out to get him.

So i guess it was me who made him not comply with company uniform policy and have the DM drop in unexpectedly to catch him on both occasions, oh n the free pass i gave him in between didn't really happen and when i said that if he was caught not complying with company uniform policy again, disciplinary procedure would follow, guess that didn't give him an indication that what happened could happen.

....before this happened, this staff member (A) and myself got on fine, after this, his attitude towards me changed. He started to make my work environment difficult, being silent on shifts with me, ignoring me when i asked him questions, only on some occasions,not all, bad mouthing me to other staff and a few other things. One staff member came up to me, (D) and commented 'oh (A) really doesn't like you.' and told me things that were said, none of them work related reasons.

one shift i was working with him (A) and another staff member, he decided to take this opportunity to take things to the next level. Me and other staff member (D) were having a laugh, engaging customers, talking about movies, tv and (D) even sang a little bonjovi. (A) wasn't with us at first but came behind the counter, then with my back to him commented 'have you ever played the game where you don't talk for a while' coz i had my back to him, i felt this comment was directed at both (D) and myself but (D) said that at the time he thought it was just directed at him as (A) starred directly at him when he said it.

I had left (A) and (D) working as i was finishing an hr before they did as i came in and hr early as a favour to another staff member (L). I was working with (D) again the next again morning and I asked him how (A) was after i left, he said fine, he was chatty after I left, he told him that the reason why he commented about shutting up, was coz he couldnt stand to hear me speak and he did say it to (D) but was directed at me. I had tried to ignore his behaviour but after that night, I decided things were getting out of hand, so I spoke to the other manager (B) and told him what was happening. (B) originally thought (A)'s behaviour which I had always made (B) aware of, would blow over but it was clearly escalating, and it was clear he was trying to make my life at work as uncomfortable as possible. So (B) agreed that something had to be done....but before (A) could be spoken to, something else happened.

Less than a week after the night where he indirectly told me to shut up, he was working with another staff member (C) and that evening they were talking about who they got on with in store and (A) said he got on with every one but me and in the same breath called me a dyke and suggested it as one of the many reasons he didn't like me, the other is my religion.(Buddhism) but he didn't mention that one to (C), it was to (D) about the religion.

(C) told me about (A)'s comments a couple of days later.At first i was shocked, then my eyes started to well up and i had to head through the back. My religion, my sexuality have nothing to do with my job and I guess it just overwhelmed me about the level of hate heading in my direction, all coz I did my job and dealt with a staff member not complying with company uniform policy. Things were getting way too personal and so I told (B) and he wasn't happy and spoke to DM and I left a message with HR. HR called me and asked about what was going on and then asked that i write in a letter about everything I said to them and send it in and they would take it from there.

statements from (D),(C), (B) and myself were taken. Investigation held, don't know what (A) said but HR believed there was enough evidence to proceed to DP. Proceeded to DP and (A) was dismissed from the company for gross misconduct. I still don't know why he believed his behaviour was acceptable but I'm not sure I care.
